olace Hospice has been creating a lot of hospice conversation over the past year with their approach to Hospice Care. Medical Professionals and patients alike are saying finally someone is operating hospice as it was meant to be. This is because of their philosophy of putting patients care above profits. According to Solace, Hospice care is governed by regulations which are known as the “Minimum Standards”. Solace Hospice sees the word Minimum as a starting point, where a lot of other corporate hospices see this as “the standard” of care. If you walked into any business, was greeted by an employee saying, welcome we are going to provide you with the minimum level of service today, you would turn around and walk out. So why in the world would this be acceptable when providing healthcare? It’s not in our book. This is just one way Solace is providing exceptional service which has been unseen in South Mississippi. Solace Hospice says “ It really just boils down to doing right by people and their families, and not getting tangled up in the bureaucracy that has become healthcare. The second thing is educating families and patients on their rights when it comes to hospice. We have heard so many people time and time again say. I didn’t know I had a choice. I just went with a name my doctor gave me. Or our favorite, my doctor said they work for this hospice so we thought it was what we had to do. What families don’t realize is that any physician can collaborate with any hospice, regardless if they work for that hospice or not. Furthermore, what people don’t understand is that, though that physician may be contracted to work for a specific hospice, they have very little control over the treatment or services that patient 4 SOUTHERN SENIOR MAGAZINE | Winter 2018 - 2019 S Solace Hospice Care
