dressed in traditional holiday colors and making sure the tree topper angel was seen in every shot. I remember falling asleep in my snowman pajamas with my new and latest baby doll nestled in my arms. Cell phones didn’t exist, some homes still had party lines. Digital wasn’t a word yet and 45rpm records were a new way of enjoying music on the new sound called stereo. If a family had a television set, they used their imagination to see the colors. Children were grateful for whatever outfit was bought or sewn for them to wear Christmas Day. Children also ate everything on their plates ‘because there were children in the world who didn’t have anything to eat’. And that dinner was cooked from scratch at home and served on china plates with real utensils. I don’t mean to ‘cry over spilled milk’, but it was what it was and I aim not to forget. I love the memories Norman Rockwell left behind for me and everyone else so it can remain ‘the most wonderful time of the year’. www.southernsenior.info 17 S
