A grant opportunity has been identified through the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start (from now on "OHS"), for the construction of a new Head Start School on the Colorado River Indian Reservation. The existing facility that houses the CRIT Head Start School is soon no longer a viable facility for providing Head Start pre-school serv- ices. CRIT Head Start needs to seek federal funding to defray the construction cost and is eligible to apply for a grant with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start. Due to the shortage of opportunities for youth-directed occupational training and employment on and near the Colorado River Indian Reservation, the Arizona Conservation Corps ("AZCC") proposes to administer a regional youth and young adult conservation corps program to be known as the CRIT/AZCC Working Group that will enroll willing CRIT par- ticipants to conduct environmental conservation service projects on and off the Reservation. All administrative oversight for the proposed CRIT/AZCC Working Group will be handled by the CRIT Ahakhav Tribal Preserve, with AZCC Staff members and Conservation Legacy, a distinguished member of AmeriCorps, the national membership association of service and conservation corps. The AZCC will provide environmental education oppor- tunities; offer conservation skills training; promote cultural awareness and appreciation, foster lifelong stewardship of the environment; provides personal development and professional career preparation, and at the same time, provides high-quality public service in natural resources and ecosystem conservation and restoration, as well as other public services opportunities.
