THE OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHAIRMAN: Vice-Chairman Keith Moses Responds to Recall Petitions To: Mr. Fred Nelson Petition- I want to address the two recall petitions that have been taken out regarding my position. I am allowed to respond to each petition in 200 words or less, but I am not confi- dent that this will be shared with everyone as it is sup- posed to be done in the process. The first taken out by Fred Nelson, address two points. The first point alleges I violated my oath of office by not faithfully promoting and protecting the best interest of CRIT. The second allegation alleges I misappropriated funds I did have a legal interac- tion in December and am currently going through the legal process. I made a mistake. I apologize for that mis- take. The holidays and January are a hard time for me for some years. I know it been over 15 years, but the loss of my best friend continues to trouble me. That in no way condones my wrong decision. I continue to seek help regarding my issues. I at no time asked or demanded pref- erential treatment. I did exactly what was asked of me and was treated fairly by law enforcement. The points that Mr. Nelson makes are very serious to me as I have worked hard over the past five years to make CRIT a bet- ter place than it was before me. I have strived to treat everyone fairly over those years. Before taking this posi- tion, my character and ethics were never in question, but he has continuously made accusations at me with no basis of fact. What’s more, we have allowed him to be very dis- ruptive, but always allowed him to voice his opinion. This is something I believe would not be tolerated in other gov- ernments. He does so in an open meeting because he knows that we won’t say anything worse back to him. He knows I won’t even though I do more about him than he thinks. I believe in a person’s rights. I believe in confiden- tiality, which gets lost some time at CRIT. I believe that EVERYONE should be heard. I have helped a lot of Tribal Members over the past few years, as have all of Tribal Council. I help those who have no one else to turn to, that includes (in this alleged instance) family. When I arrived, spending was not controlled at all, and we have strived to bring that under control to be prudent in how we spend money. This is the process that is in place that I follow. If there are concerns about who gets put in the hotel then perhaps, we should consider ending financial assistance all together then there would be no question. I know past Councils have done so, and I have brought up this idea in prior meetings. I can’t tell you or make you do anything. I would only ask that you considered the source of these allegations in the petition and choose accordingly. I am continuing to work for everyone in this office and will continue to do so until the end of my term. To: Mr. Tim Stevens Petition- There are a lot of allegations in this statement. Inaccurate accusations with no basis of fact in any of them. I would say consider the source of this statement. This is the same tactic that was used when the same person and group attempted to confuse Tribal Members regarding our water issues two years ago trying to recall all of Tribal Council. At that time as is now with no basis in facts. I believe in everyone’s right to speak on their issues or concerns to reach a resolution. That has not been in my experience, what this person and group intend. This is a time for solutions! None are being offered by this person or group. I have been in this position for five years and logic would dictate that if these statements were true; even one, it would have been brought up or addressed before now. I take very seriously the position that has been entrusted to me and have strived to the best of my ability to move CRIT forward; for everyone. I ask you all to really consider the truth before signing anything. Thank you.
