A6 April 2022 • Community • www.lwca.com Golf Tournament FUNdraiser Thanks to Barry Jacobsen, Donna Bailey and Pat Connolley and volunteers for providing a wonderful day of golfing at Coyote Run on Thursday, March 24. Although the tally of the contributions are not in, participants enjoyed the various games that enhanced the golf game. A dinner with silent auction also added to the fun. Grant Recipients The following nonprofit groups applied and received funds from the Leisure World Foundation. The total awarded was $35000 and checks were distributed to representatives at the March 23 Premiere Speaker presentation. The funds touch the lives of veterans and their families, and preschool children and breast cancer survivors. Future articles will highlight these organizations. • Child Crisis Center – emphasis is pre-K education for those below poverty level • Save the Family – emphasis is in housing for homeless female veterans and their families • Lutheran Social Services – emphasis is homeless emergency lodging • Bag and Boob Babes – contribution towards postage for delivery of items to breast cancer patients • Prison Ministry – emphasis is funding of high school courses for incarcerated women • Assistance League of the East Valley – funds to spent on assault survivor kits for victims of crime Resident Amenities Enhanced Library Fund The LeisureWorld Foundation offered a $2000 incentive to Leisure World Library donors. Donations would be matched to that amount. And, thanks to the generous residents, the goal was met by the first week in March. A check was given to the library to continue adding new books to their collection. Of course, more donations will be gladly accepted. A big thank you to all! Premiere Speaker Series The 2021-22 Premiere Speaker Series ended on March 23 with Bill Harrison. The audience learned about caves and caverns within the state of Arizona. Each of the presentations ended with cookies sponsored by Desert Financial. A slate of new presentations is being scheduled for 2022-23 with the theme of “Famous Faces and Famous Places in Arizona”.
