Leisure World News • Wellness • April 2022 B19 Athletics and tness have always been a regular part of my life. Jane and I moved to Leisure World in 2018. e tness center was a big attraction for me. It is easily the best facility of any of the active adult communities, with a large range of equipment and free weights. e sta has always been top notch and a good vibe is always generated. Fully retired, I have a busy tness schedule that includes mountain biking twice weekly, racquetball, boxing class, line dancing class, swimming and lifting weights along with kayaking. My calendar is fully booked! Jane and I like to ride bikes around the neighborhood in the evening. e boxing class taught by Quoc, is rst rate. I recommend the class. It is noncontact and Quoc works with everyone at their own level. Boxing skills are taught along with conditioning drills to say nothing of the great class comradery. At the end of the 45-minute session I am dripping wet and usually exhausted. Swimming has become a big part of my life. Two summers ago, I took swimming lessons at Leisure World. is past August I swam across Saguaro Lake. Our daughter, Nina, kayaked alongside pulling another kayak for the ride back. It was a one-way swim. Lake swimming is quite di erent from swimming in the pool. For me it was one of life’s little accomplishments. Moving to Leisure World was one of the best decisions Jane and I ever made. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Mathew Menenberg SHE DIDN’T WANT A FUNERAL. If yo u want a farewell done well, call Hilary. A new season is the perfect time to share some standard gym etiquette in the Fitness Center. Your safety is our number one priority. The goal is to keep everyone safe and practice healthy habits in an area with many moving bodies and heavy equipment. Please be aware that your behavior affects other people. Fitness Center etiquette is more important than ever to keep our members safe and our space clean. In short, we have four simple rules for patrons to follow: 1. Clean up after yourself. 2. Be safe and prevent the spread of germs. 3. Share with others. 4. Be nice. Safety First When everyone follows these guidelines, it creates a safe and comfortable environment, allowing everyone to exercise without having to worry about what the person next to them is doing. These are no-nonsense, common-sense guidelines we should live by daily. Clean it Up: It is standard gym etiquette to wipe equipment off before and after you use it. Use our high-grade disinfectant wipes to clean the equipment you use to keep yourself and others healthy. Be Safe: Safety is our number one concern at Leisure World. Please stay home if you have a cold, flu or COVID-like symptoms! Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the Fitness Center for your safety and convenience. Additional safety measures include using a daily locker (key is provided) inside the locker rooms to store your bags and personal belongings to prevent tripping hazards. Be sure to remove your belongings when finished and leave the key in the locker for the next person to use. Don’t Sit on Equipment You are Not Using It: During our busy season, please be considerate of sitting on equipment that you are not using. Prolonged resting and/or chatting with a friend may prevent another member from being able to use that machine or bench, etc. We love the camaraderie that occurs in the Fitness Center, but please be aware of the equipment needs of others. Pick Up Your Equipment: If you use something, put it back. This makes it available for someone else to use right away. Remove weight plates and return them to their proper place. Cleaning up after ourselves creates a more user-friendly environment and helps other more easily locate equipment. It also creates a safer environment by preventing tripping hazards. No Phone Calls: Although you may use your phones for music and/or have them nearby during your workout, talking on the phone is not allowed in the fitness area. There are times when taking a call may be necessary, but if possible, please take the call in the lobby or outside. Be Nice The Fitness Center is a shared space for all our residents. Please be mindful of others’ workout space. Be respectful of social distancing guidelines. In the end, these etiquette guidelines boil down to the same concept: be considerate of other people. By following these simple rules, the Oasis Health Spa Fitness Center will continue to be friendly and healthy place to exercise for all! Fitness Center Etiquette JOH:N ' N ' Y')S • I , ' ROOFING CO.
