Using a very specific module that breaks down the traditional approach in which clinical trials are not only discussed but performed. Just think of the advertisements that you have heard regarding a clinical trial. Most of the clinical trials are conducted on a university campus or in a clinical lab. It seems very intimidating… right? This is where CareAccess has established themselves as cutting- edge in the health industry. The goal is to empower people to make choices for their own healthcare, says Patient Access Liaison Vickie Smith. We provide patient education through a team that travels around the country to help patients understand clinical trials. The stigma with most clinical trials is that they are only conducted on serious illness. That is quite far from the truth. Director of Site Operations Jane Bjorklund explains that anything that may have an affect on the body must go through the process of a clinical trial. “Bunion medication has to go through the process of a clinical trial. It is not just new medication for Cancer or Alzheimer’s, anything that will have an affect on you must be tested.” CareAcess takes pride in having a diverse staff so that the needs of the community or met. “We have a focus on low-income seniors and the community in which they live,” says Vickie. “We remove so many barriers by actually providing education and screenings in the neighborhood. We bring the resources to the people.” In having a diverse staff that include various ethic backgrounds, cultures and languages, it allows CareAccess to reach individuals that are often lost in the healthcare industry as well as have faces that are relatable. “We want to meet people where they are,” says Jane. “We want to give easy access to come to educational workshops.” CareAccess is hosting a Cognitive Health presentation as a 4-week lecture series with guest speaker, Brian Browne, President of Dementia Care Education and a research consultant to the Cleveland Clinic. Please come to be informed so that you may make the best decision for your healthcare needs.
