Lawn Bowling Club Submitted by Tish Murphy We are on a roll this season by giving residents a chance to check out the sport of lawn bowling! At the annual activities fair, 28 people said they wanted to try it. On Wednesday, November 17, they got that chance. Some got hooked on the game and continued by taking free lessons. After training, the membership fee is $40 for the year, which includes the use of membership bowls or a spot to park yours in the Lakeside Clubhouse (when you buy your own set) and a membership badge. Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for competitive and social play with others who enjoy being outside and honing their skills. As a member, you can grab your bowls and practice at your convenience. There are also social hours and other celebrations throughout the year. We are beginning to play in the evenings, so if you see lights on at the greens, come by and watch us as we are challenged by the shadows and sometimes unexpected sprinklers! For more information, please contact Tish Murphy at 602-363-8821 or Tishsource@aol.com . Pickleball Club Submitted by Donna Macfarlane We have 275 members and growing! Tennis Club Submitted by Sue Weber All Leisure World residents are invited to participate in drop-in tennis on Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. on courts 3 and 4. Please bring your racket and wear court shoes. The Tennis Complex is kept in tip-top shape due to the hard work of our weekly cleaning teams. Teams wipe down all the rails, bleachers, tables and chairs. Moreover, every two weeks, the courts are swept clean using our court sweeper. Periodically, volunteers power wash and squeegee all the courts. Special recognition to Robin Dougherty and Sue Weber for winning the Mesa Tennis Center’s eight-week Summer 3.0 - 3.5 Tennis League. The Leisure World Tennis Club had four teams playing in the Annual Venture Out Fall Classic Championship Round. The 3.0 team of Robin Dougherty and Sue Weber won the first-place gold medal. And three teams finished in second place, receiving silver medals. All residents are invited to attend the freeTennis Academy every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Tennis Complex. It teaches beginners basic strokes and rules of the game and allows 2.5 - 3.5 level players to improve strokes and doubles’ strategy.
