It brought us pain and sorrow it’s true, For family and friends and strangers too. Many have died from this terrorist attack, And many were hurt but our heart didn’t crack. Yes our heart was missed and it will always be, Because America’s heart stretches from sea to sea. It’s a heart of strength in this great proud land, As we rise from the ashes and stand hand in hand. It’s a heart of strength through it’s people’s will, A heart of strength that grows stronger still. Together we’ll stand as we always have done, Together we’ll stand and they can’t make us run. Now our heart is stronger and so our resolve, Through the pain in our heart our strength will evolve. We’ll rise from the ashes of the buildings that fell, And drive these devils back into hell. Americans raise up your flags for all to see. We’re proud and we’re strong and always will be. We’re Americans yes and proud of the fact, Proud and strong we are and through strength we will act. -James Amodeo is a poet and Leisure World resident. POEM An Arrow Pierced Our Heart: Remembering 9/11 Sadly, on September 11, 2000, over 3,000 people were lost. Through these events, our country came together with open arms to support and love one another. We will be honoring this event by showing a virtual tour of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring 9/11, documenting its impact and examining its continuing significance. Honoring those who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks is at the heart of their mission. Located at the World Trade Center in New York City, the 9/11 Memorial Museum tells the story of 9/11 through media, narratives and a collection of monumental and authentic artifacts, presenting visitors with personal stories of loss, recovery and hope. The Recreation Department will be serving breakfast burritos, fruit and coffee. Please register by stopping by the Recreation Office or calling 480-832-0000 ext. 209.
