fee schedule for the life safety plan review, including inspec- tions and permit fees. Three other first readings of new ordinances were approved. They address development im- pact fees, sidewalks, and distri- bution of fees associated with municipal court. All three votes were unanimous. Included as part of the record of the meeting was a memo from city manager Alex Cohilas com- mending city employee Keenan Loundy for his recent perform- ance. A 14-year U.S. Navy vet- eran, Loundy has been with the city for five years and works in the wastewater treatment depart- ment. Recently he obtained his Class III wastewater operator license, completing a course with the Georgia Water and Wastewater Institute and passing a battery of tests which Cohilas compared to obtaining a chemistry degree. “Keenan’s dedication to the city of Hampton is manifest through both his actions and the progression of his career which stands as an example to all his coworkers,” Cohilas stated. “I applaud his work ethic and ded- ication.” The council also presented the R.W. Coley Community Service Award to former mayor and council member Chris Moore for his recent volunteer work on behalf of the city. For families choosing to continue their learning remotely, district of- ficials have reported a number of adjustments since the start of the school year to make that experi- ence better. Meanwhile, students have con- tinued receiving meals from the district’s Nutrition Department for a nominal charge since the first week of school, but now that serv- ice will be available at no charge thanks to waivers from the U.S. Department ofAgriculture for dis- tricts that participated in summer food services in the wake of the COVID-19 shutdown. The free meals will be available for all stu- dents regardless of if they are on campus or remaining as remote learners. Starting September 30, remote learning students will be able to pick up their meals directly from their regular school as opposed to having to go to one of the ten dis- tribution sites fromwhere families were previously being served. Stu- dents returning to campus and choosing the school lunch and breakfast choices will receive those daily from the cafeteria.”All remote learners will still need to log on to MySchoolBucks.com to pre-order their meal plans each week between Thursday andMon- day.
