The Henry County Times August 8, 2018 Page 6 door. A native of Aiken, S.C., Berry lived in Atlanta as a child and moved toAthens when he was 23 years old. He launched his singing career 40 years ago, and his powerful vocals led him to a string of hits in the 1990s. Those hits include “She’s Got a Mind of Her Own,” “You and Only You,” “If I Had Any Pride Left At All” and “Your Love Amazes Me,” for which he received a Grammy nomination in 1995. When asked to choose a favorite song from his repertoire, Berry gave an answer that points to his success as an entertainer. “My favorite song is the one that’s the favorite of the people I’m singing for,” he said. In anticipation of the upcoming concert, Berry acknowledged that a strong connection exists between country music and gospel music. He said fans of both genres will find something they enjoy at the show. “I don’t think it’s a real stretch,” said Berry. “It’s a good mix for me. I don’t think there’s a song of mine that I wouldn’t do in church.” Although it has been a long time since he has performed in Henry County, Berry said he hopes the audience will get a lot out of it. “I hope folks will know a little more about me than when they came, and how much I genuinely love to sing for them,” he said.
