Normally, a library is quiet but , on

Friday, June 2 at 2 p.m., the Fortson

Public Library is making an excep-

tion. We are excited to have

Babatunde come and kickoff our

2017 summer reading program.

Babatunde is a freestyle storyteller.

This program is centered around

the importance of collectively com-

ing together to authentically cele-

brate our differences while being

fully aware of how our commonali-

ties can make the most beautiful

and powerfully rich experiences,

opportunities for growth and heal-

ing and community building.

GSU’s fantastic Bio-Bus will once again return to Fortson Public Library

on Friday, July 7th. Since seats are limited for these programs, sign-up will

be required to participate, and it fills up fast! All sessions this year are for

those 8 years old and up.

There will be two sessions of the Chemistry: States of Matter presenta-

tion, one at 11 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. This session focuses on the prop-

erties of the states of matter with demonstrations to illustrate the concepts

and gain familiarity with lab practices. Our 11 a.m. session will be espe-

cially tailored for teens and adults with developmental differences.

At 3 p.m. we will host Chemistry: Acids, Bases, and Indicators.

Participants will conduct hands-on experiments while learning about the

properties of acids and bases, the use of pH indicators, and scientific think-

ing and methodology.

Have you ever watched the TV show Chopped and thought, “I could do

that!” Well, on Thursday, June 22 at 1:30 p.m. you will get your chance. We

will even give you the advantage of knowing what the secret ingredient is

right now! Your challenge? To build a better peanut butter sandwich and

refreshing drink. Your judges? Select members of our library staff!

Discover if you have the chops for this challenge or if you’ll be chopped!

Stories are all around us. They can be found

in books, magazines, online and through bal-

loons. Yes, inanimate objects can tell stories

with some help from storytellers. Laurel

Alford, storyteller and balloon artist extraordi-

naire is visiting the Fortson Public Library and

we are about to pop! Join us on Wednesday,

June 7 at 11 a.m. for some fabulous stories

about animals and more told through the won-

der of balloons.

Participants from last summer’s hit visit from Chef Carlin will be excited

to know she is returning to Fortson Public Library on Thursday, June 15th.

Since space is limited, those interested in partici-

pating, ages 12 and older, are asked to sign-up to

reserve their spot. Arrive by 5:15 p.m. to partici-

pate in a food themed game before we get cooking

at 5:30 p.m. This year, participants will “Build a

Better Mac & Cheese.” How could mac & cheese

get any better? Sign-up and come find out!

Bio-Bus at Fortson

Mondays, June 5th, June 19th, and July 3rd at

6 p.m. join us to watch an episode from a dif-

ferent anime series. Each session will also fea-

ture unique library resources on topics such as

learning a foreign language, drawing and ani-

mation, and how to check out manga from the

library (traditional book and digital formats).

Casual fans and otaku alike are welcome to

come watch, talk, and snack.

On Friday, June 30 at 11 a.m. The

Mobile Dairy Classroom and the

Chick-Fil-A cow will be here. The

MDC will be sharing with the fami-

lies how milk is processed and will

bring their real life model, Sadie, to

the program. Miss Nicole, our

mobile dairy ambassador, will be

able to answer questions about life

on a dairy farm. This is an outdoor

event, so bring chairs or towels to sit

on in the grass. If it is raining, the

event will be postponed.

Whether you call it stimming, fidget-

ing, play, or stress relief, come discover

different ways to celebrate the energy

and stimulation some brains crave! A

variety of different stations will be set

up for all ages to investigate. Discover

ways to reduce noise, recipes for home-

made slime, weighted toys and blan-

kets, fidgeting toys, “chewlery,” and

digital resources for learning more

about how brains work.

Attendees are also invited to con-

tribute to a list of things they like to

habitually do or bring a favorite item

for stimming or fidgeting to show &

tell. Keep calm and stim on at Fortson

Build a Better Mac & Cheese

On Friday, June 9th at 1:30 p.m., builders will work on teams to create a

catapult (up), zip line (across), and bridge (over). “ Builder Event – Up,

Across, Over!” promises to be an exciting lesson in teamwork and physics.

Monday, June 26th at 1:30 p.m. participants not only will build with LEGO

bricks, they will build themselves and each other up with their words. The

only way to get the bricks needed to construct something will be to pay, in

compliments, towards others and oneself! Ages 5 and older.
