Our Lady Academy, Bay St. Louis Class of 2023 Accolades • ACT Class Average 25.45 with 50% scoring 26 or higher • Star Student ACT 33 • 49% of Senior Class has a Composite Score of 26 or above • 9 seniors scored a 29 or above on ACT • Scholarship offers over $4.87 million averaging over $105,000 per student • Class completed 6,027 service hours during their high school career Senior Awards The American Citizenship Award: Anne Larson Boone The American Citizenship Award is presented to the student that shows a positive attitude, strength of character, understanding civic responsibility, and promotes citizenship among her peers. The Chamber of Commerce Award: Gabrielle Ferrill The Chamber of Commerce Award is presented each year for exceptional character and respect of peers and faculty. The Achievement Award: Kaileigh Garcia The Achievement Award is given by the Our Lady Academy faculty to the student who has shown the most improvement, effort, and progress in her aca- demic work. The American Legion Award: Anna Goins The American Legion Award is presented by Sergeant at Arms 2nd Vice Commander Honor Guard David Williams of Post 139 to the student who, in service to her community, has shown high qualities of honor, courage, scholarship, leader- ship, companionship, and character. The Madison Katherine Conaway Legacy of Kindness Scholarship: Sofie Talazac The Madison Katherine Conaway Legacy of Kindness Scholarship was created in memory of Madison Conaway, a 2010 OLA graduate. Upon completion of college, she accepted a position at Disney World in Florida. After a period of time, she moved to California to work at Disneyland. A few years later, Madison moved back to the MS Gulf Coast and was, unfortunately, killed by a drunk driver on I-10 while on her way home from work. The scholarship was created with the characteris- tics of Madison in mind which included: compas- sionate, selfless, resilient, fearless, and inquisitive. Elena Marie Lorenza Lucore Ambassador Award: Rebecca Baxter Elena Lucore was a member of the Class of 2021. Unfortunately, Elena was killed in an accident involving an automobile in 2022. This character award is presented to a member of the Our Lady Academy Ambassador Club whose character mir- rors the memorable qualities that Elena possessed and shared with everyone she met. This award is presented to the ambassador that has shown com- passion, kindness, and has inconspicuously per- formed authentic acts of Christianity, and most of all, has shared her inner joy and laughter with oth- ers. The Hull Award: Avery Matheson One of OLA’s very special traditions is to honor an outstanding senior as the best all-around athlete at OLA. This award is named after Harry Hull who taught at OLA in the Mathematics Department for 30 years. Hull soon became known as Coach Hull as he founded, promoted, and coached many of our athletic teams. Coach Hull and Waddy LeBourgeois created the first women’s high school soccer team in Mississippi in 1988. The Spirit of Mercy Award: Maria Schuyler The Spirit of Mercy Award is given in honor of the many Sisters of Mercy; including Sr. Elisa Baughman and Sr. Jaqueline Howard, that have helped through- out OLA’s history. The award is given to the student who exemplifies Mercy through her outstanding commitment and dedication to her community. She has in her daily life, emulated the spirit of Catherine McAuley by promoting personal excellence and social responsibility. She has also demonstrated an abiding faith in God and has lived a life exemplified by honor, dignity, and a profound love for humanity. The Principal’s Cup: Amy Pigott The Principal’s Cup is presented each year to the student who is a member of the National Honor Society and who has demonstrated to an outstand- ing degree the qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and service. The Mary Patricia Schmidt Character Cup: Avery Matheson The Mary Patricia Schmidt Character Cup is pre- sented to the senior whose character exemplifies such traits as Christian maturity, courage, depend- ability, service to others, sincerity, and stability. St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis Awards For the twenty-third time in Saint Stanislaus’ histo- ry, honors diplomas and medallions were presented to the following eight graduates: Fulton Ascherl, Joseph Cottone III, Edward Dezendorf, Alan Funderburk, Carter Ilgenfritz Jr., Zachary May, Brady McCaw, and John Mullins. The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce Award was presented to Zachary May in recognition of the qualities of scholarship and character. Edward Dezendorf received the Scholar-Athlete Award in recognition of excellence in both scholarly and athletic endeavors and for lettering in at least two varsity sports. John Mullins was named the Jeanne Simon Award recipient for being an unheralded influence for good on the St. Stanislaus community. The St. Stanislaus Alumni Association Award was presented to Gabriel Tusa in recognition for concern for his fellow man through projects involving the cor- poral and spiritual works of mercy. The American Legion Award , given by the Clement R. Bontemps, Post #139 of the American Legion, was presented to Shawn Palmer in recognition of his service to his community as well as his demon- stration of the high qualities of honor, courage, scholar- ship, leadership, service, companionship, and character. The C onduct Award for a Resident Student was given to Jeremy Reddoch in recognition of his whole- hearted cooperation, which has been a source of inspi- ration and good example to the entire student body. The Brother Joseph Donovan Character Cup , is presented to a day student and resident student who takes responsibility for his own holistic education and who contributes by word and example to the creation of a healthy environment for his peers. In addition to qualities such as honesty, integrity, dependability, and courage, a Brother Joseph Donovan Character Cup recipient is also a young man who takes the Gospel mandate to serve others to heart. Gavin Cuenca was presented the resident student Character Cup, while Grant May was presented the day student Character Cup. The President’s Award is the highest award offered by St. Stanislaus to a graduating senior. It is presented to the student who has demonstrated to an outstanding degree the qualities of leadership, responsibility, initia- tive, manners and stability. The President’s Award was presented to Brady McCaw .
