Under the direction of Terry Maddox, Minister of Music and Director of Fine Arts for Nativity Parish, fifteen students performed pieces which they’ve been working on with Terry since the fall semester. Selections included piano, voice, guitar and trumpet. Kindergartner Jonas Neaves, a first year student, performed piano renditions of Mary Had a Little Lamb and Yankee Doodle . Second grader Jaylynn Miller sang Castle on a Cloud . And When the Saints Go Marching In was performed by sixth grade duo, Olivia Codella, guitar and Bentley Puzz, piano, with an encore by Lyle Ramon on his trumpet. Nativity BVM School is grateful to Terry for his continued support of our school’s music ministry. On Wednesday, May 3, the Nativity BVM Catholic Elementary School Choir hosted its Spring Concert at the school’s gymnatorium. Consisting of over 25 members, the school’s choir has been practicing all semester for the show featuring ten new songs. Minister of Music and Director of FineArts for Nativity Parish, Terry Maddox, directed the choir, along with the assistance of Nanette Burke. A highlight of this year’s concert was features and solos from a number of choir students. Twins, Mia and Elena Mitchell, gave a rousing performance of Singing in the Rain while Ramsey Strayham belted out Blue Skies . Madden Johnson helped round out the concert with his take on What a Wonderful World . The choir performed for the entire school, as well as a separate performance for parents and friends. Every year, they create businesses. They come up with a prod- uct to sell, create a business plan and apply for a permit. Then they secure start-up funds, gather the necessary resources, and begin production. They also come up with a marketing plan that includes a flier, a poster, and/or a commercial. Finally the Fifth Grade Entrepreneurs Market opens for business in the school gym. This year that was on May 2 and 3. After the market closes, the students figure their profit; payback their loans; and donate a portion of their profit to charity. This year almost $2,500 flowed through the Entrepreneurs Market!
