Joseph Uko, pastor at St. Joseph, will place the Blessed Sacrament into a Monstrance (a vessel used to display the Eucharist) following Mass at 7 a.m. so Catholics and others may come before the Lord and pray anytime throughout the day. “Christ is present, body, blood, soul and divinity in the Holy Eucharist,” said Father Uko. At 4 p.m. if a priest or deacon is available, the day of adoration will close with Benediction. The Christmas Season is a great time for us to start this practice! Christmas is all about the Word becoming flesh. So in the Eucharist, we believe the Word of God, who is Jesus, becomes flesh for us. Through the Holy Eucharist, this is the way He communicates Himself … to save us, to give us strength, to be our companion on the way to heaven. There is no better time for this emphasis and focus. Emphasis on Eucharistic Adoration is to inspire people to encounter Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. It is part of the Catholic Church’s national “Eucharistic Revival” to last for three years. It is for Catholics and non-Catholics, with an aim of raising awareness of the Church’s beliefs and teachings. It is also to allow people to have an encounter in prayer with Jesus present in the Eucharist. These first Fri. hours of adoration are one of the avenues we are using to allow people to have encounters with the Lord. When we go to adoration, we are with Baby Jesus. We can go and be there just like those shepherds were that night. We can do that now today, because He is truly present in the Eucharist. ► Nativity BVM Cathedral, Biloxi, Feb. 9, A Healing encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist ~ In connection with Our Lady of Lourdes, which St. Pope John ► Nativity BVM Cathedral Catholic School, Jan. 29, School Open House ~ Nativity BVM Catholic School invites you to join us for our Annual Open House, Sun., Jan. 29, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. We will be offering tours of our campus as well as information regarding our aca- demics, school clubs and organizations, and our faith-based curriculum.
