16 Gulf Pine Catholic • April 2, 2021 Spotlight on Schools Gibson Williams, Joseph Deano, and Satvik Kampella qualified for the upcoming 2021 MathCounts State Competition which will be held on March 25. They earned their spots based on their performance in the Chapter Invitations held on February 25 in which Joseph took first place. They are coached by Math Department Chair Jordan Roy. This is the first time that three students have represented Saint Stanislaus at the state level. MathCounts is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition. Its found- ing sponsors include the CNA Foundation, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Jake Whitney and Gene Hoffman compete in the Madden eSports League. The Saint Stanislaus sophomore class went on their annual retreat earlier this month. The retreat was led by campus ministers Brother Bernard Couvillion and Betsy Brennan. The retreat fosters sophomores’ growth as young men of integrity and character rooted in a relationship with Christ while fostering a deeper sense of community within their class. This one-day retreat is held off-campus to facilitate the learning experience. Saint Stanislaus joined the Madden NFL 21 esport competition now being offered by the MS High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) for 2021. MHSAA recent- ly partnered with PlayVS, the official scholastic esports platform, to recognize the first true sports titles as Varsity competition for Spring 2021. The spring regular season kicked-off in March with Madden matches to be played on Thursday. Top teams at the end of the season will advance to the playoffs and compete for an end- of-year tournament championship.
