Walk was one of just two players from Mississippi, and 150 nationwide, selected for the honor. Walk commented, “I am extremely humbled to be selected as an All-American. The sport of volleyball is becoming more popu- lar each year especially in Mississippi. Receiving this prestigious distinction is the perfect way to finish my career at Our Lady Academy. After all the hard work and our team accomplishments, it is the icing on the cake.” Walk, an honor student, and a five-year varsity letterman, led the nation with 883 kills. She signed a volleyball scholarship with the University of South Alabama in November. OLA principal Marilyn Pigott said, “We are very proud of Becca and all of her accomplishments on and off the court. She is well deserving of this recog- nition and we know she will be an asset to the University of South Alabama’s volleyball team.” She is the daughter of Mary Kay “KK” and Wesley Walk of Diamondhead. OLA’s Rebecca Walk earns All-American honors by prep volleyball Our Lady Academy donated over $1,000 to Australia Zoo Walk On Friday, January 31, Our Lady Academy (OLA) students raised over $1,000 to assist the Australia Zoo animals affected by the raging wildfires that have killed more than one billion animals to date, accord- ing to the Australia World Wildlife Fund. Freshman Audry Chang said, “You’re so far away from it that you can’t really be there to help, so being able to donate and help other people be there is great.” OLA teamed up with Wild Acres, a unique farm homed to exotic animals in McHenry, to afford the students the opportunity to take a picture for $5 with animals native to Australia. Students were given a choice to pet, hold, and take a picture with either one of the new additions to the Wild Acres family, Dolly the Red Kangaroo or Sonny the Wallaby. Principal Marilyn Pigott commented, “Everyone was very excited about having these animals on cam- pus and knowing that all the donations received were going to benefit so many animals that are in great need of aid right now in Australia.” The donations will go directly to Wildlife Warrior, originally called the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation, to help treat over 8,000 injured and orphaned wildlife. At this time, the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is in need of medical equipment and general supplies. For more information or donations go to www.wildlifewarriors.com Pigott added, “As this was the conclusion of the celebration of Catholic School Week, it reinforced our mission to give service to others especially when they are in need of our help.” Sofie Talazac and Sophia Miller with Sonny and Dolly Audrey Chang with Sonny, the wallaby
