Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Elementary School, Biloxi Nativity BVM students who recently received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time were Charlotte Baker, Ava Bersabe, Nathan Cloud, Harper Corley, Kenzlee Cvitanovich, Banks Ellis, Emma Gnapp, Flynn Hargrove, Art Jordan, James Watts, Caroline Wilson, and Chloe Wood. The Heisman Trophy Trust announced the 2019 Heisman High School Scholarship School Winners and St. Patrick Catholic High School’s Clayton Stoddard made the list. School Winners will con- tinue to compete for the chance to become State Winners, National Finalists or National Winners. State Winners receive a $500 col- lege scholarship, National Finalists receive a $1,000 college scholarship and the male and female National Winners will each receive a $5,000 college scholar- ship and a trip to New York City to attend the 2019 Heisman Trophy Weekend events including the tele- vised ESPN Heisman Trophy ceremony and 85th annual Heisman Dinner Gala. St. Patrick High School, Biloxi Stoddard Fifth and sixth graders share a day at OLA Our Lady Academy (OLA) invited fifth and sixth grade girls to experience a day as an OLA Crescent. Over 80 students from Coast Episcopal, St. James, St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Trinity Catholic School, St. Charles Borromeo of Picayune, St. Margaret Mary of Slidell, Pass Christian Middle, Hancock Middle, and 3D of Ocean Springs schools participated in the event. The students toured the campus, created sacrifice beads, broadcasted the news live from the WOLA tele- vision station, and designed picture frames. The high- light of the day for them was dissecting owl pellets in the biology lab. They were also treated to a special performance by the OLA dance team and a demonstra- tion from the OLA Robotics team. Top left, students dissecting owl pellets. St. Vincent de Paul School, Long Beach Recently, Quinn Burns, a student at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic School in Long Beach, was named the statewide winner in the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts Poster Contest. Last spring, she entered the Harrison County Conservation District’s poster contest. The theme was “Life in the Soil -- Dig Deeper.” Her poster then went on to the next two lev- els of competition before being named the state-wide winner. Quinn won a cash prize for every level. She is invited to attend an awards reception in Jackson in January where she will collect another prize before her poster goes on to compete at the national level.
