14 Gulf Pine Catholic • October 4, 2019 Father Tommy Conway named first recipient of Servant’s Heart Award HATTIESBURG - A group of community members created the con- cept of The Servant’s Heart Award, an annual award for individuals who con- tribute to our community through vol- unteering their service. The intent is to recognize Servants in our community whose actions, which come from their Hearts, have blessed many in our area. We know that these type of individuals don’t seek recognition, but they deserve our appreciation. They have made this a better place to live. The group selected Father Tommy Conway as the initial award winner and he was recognized at a dinner event at Southern Oaks on Thursday, September 19. The net proceeds raised through ticket sales will directly benefit the wishes of each year’s award recipient. Father Tommy has been involved for years in our community through roles at local Catholic churches and currently serves at St. Fabian Catholic Church in Lamar County. Not only did he start this church at the direction of the diocesan bishop, but through his leadership, Phase One of a long-range building project was completed this year. This initial construction has greatly enhanced access to its mem- bers. His service to our community is seen in various ways as a volunteer to many nonprofit organizations created in our community. Over 225 people attended this event allowing Father Tommy to be honored with some humor, good fun, and sincere comments on how he has blessed this community.
