Wittmann Achieves Eagle Scout Rank Philip Wittmann, of Boy Scout Troop 316 in Pass Christian, was honored at his Eagle Court of Honor at the Pass Christian Boy Scout Hut on May 6. Scoutmaster Sean Keady presided over the ceremony. Philip has been an active member of Troop 316 since 2012 and he served in such positions as senior patrol leader, quarter master, chaplain, and Order of the Arrow representative, among others. Philip was inducted into the highly selective Order of the Arrow during the Fall 2017 Ordeal. The Order of the Arrow is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America, composed of Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives as elected by their peers. Philip completed his Eagle Service Project and Board of Review in June 2018. His project stands in War Memorial Park in Pass Christian. He designed, con- structed, and supervised the completion, installation, and stocking of a Little Free Library near the spot when the temporary library stood in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Having lost nearly everything, the return of this aspect of nor- malcy made a big impression on the five-year-old Philip and his little free library commemorates that effort. He secured permission from the Mayor and Board of Alderman to place the library near the gazebo in the park, and since its placement, it has been welcomed by the community, is fully stocked and has frequent visitors. A 2018 graduate of Saint Stanislaus College, Philip was active in the SSC band, playing piano, drums, and baritone saxophone, also serving as drum major his junior and senior years. He lettered in cross county and track and field and was also active in Campus Ministry where he regularly played piano and organ for Mass. He is a parishioner of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, where he is a member of the OLG choir and guest organist. Philip has completed his freshman year of col- lege at Mississippi State University in the Bagley College of Engineering where he is studying computer engineering. Philip is the son of F. Philip and Dena Wittmann of Pass Christian. St. Vincent dePaul Catholic School, Long Beach St. Vincent dePaul Catholic School has two (2) national winners in the InvestWrite Essay Contest.
