Gulf Pine Catholic • May 31, 2019 20 Spotlight on Schools D iocesan H appenings Karli Renz Corr, Our Lady Academy (OLA) art teacher, has been named as the recipient of the 2019 OLA art teacher, Karli Renz Corr, accepts the AIM award from Stacey Reischman Fletcher, M.F.A. Director at the University of Southern Mississippi. AIM Award for outstanding achievement in arts educa- tion in the Visual Art category. The Art Institute of Mississippi (AIM) at The University of Southern Mississippi established the AIM Awards to salute and honor the accomplishments of outstanding high school level arts teachers, schools, and organizations that are making an impact through exemplary achievements in arts education through the state of Mississippi. Corr has impacted many of her students’ lives through her dedi- cation and leadership and has embodied the highest standards in arts education. Corr has been teaching art for five years at OLA and is the founding sponsor of the OLA National Art Honor Society. A graduate of Our Lady Academy, Corr received her art degree from The University of Mississippi and is the recipient of the Apple Teacher Award and Outstanding Instruction. Corr focuses on teaching artistic behavior in her classroom. When creat- ing art, the students are given as many choices as pos- sible to not only grow their creativity, but to help them learn how to become artists. OLA’S art teacher, Karli Renz Corr, recipient of the 2019 AIM award Our Lady Academy, Bay St. Louis On Friday, May 10, St. Charles Elementary celebrated their annual Mother's Day Celebration. The mothers were invited to school Mass in which the students and mothers were able to make a prayer of consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following Mass, the mothers were invited to enjoy a Catholic art show and refreshments. Over the course of the school year, students at St. Charles participated in an Art Enrichment program which focused on Catholic prayers and devotions. The artwork was then displayed throughout the St. Charles parish hall for the mothers to enjoy and to discuss with their children. St. Charles Borromeo Elementary, Picayune St. Thomas Baccalaureate Mass was held on Sunday, May 12. Two seniors, Ashton Herodes and Christina Parry, were chosen as the recipients of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Louis Lohan Outstanding Senior Award. Long Beach, St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Father Bartosz Kunat and Charlotte Saucier, president of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #12331 of Sacred Heart Dedeaux, presented the $1,000 Susan Starita Madigan Scholarship for 2019 went to Rylee Swilley.
