Gulf Pine Catholic • May 31, 2019 12 BILOXI -- Matt Buckley, principal of St. Patrick Catholic High School, is proud to announce Stephen Azar as the Class of 2019 Valedictorian and Amelie Million as the Class of 2019 Salutatorian. Valedictorian Stephen Azar is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Nabil Azar. He is a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and attended Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School. Azar plans to attend the Uni- versity of South Alabama and major in biology. Salutatorian Amelie Million is the daughter of Dr. Odile and Mr. Troy Million. She is a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Parish and attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School. Million plans to attend the United States Naval Academy and major in systems engineering. The St. Patrick Catholic High School 2019 gradu- ation liturgy and presentation of diplomas will be held on Friday, May 17, at 5 p.m on campus at St. Patrick Catholic High School. Stephen Azar Valedictorian Amelie Million Salutatorian BAY ST. LOUIS -- St. Stanislaus is proud to announce Alexander Koons as Valedictorian and Stephen Schruff as Salutatorian of the Class of 2019. Koons and Schruff were formally recognized during commencement exercises following Mass celebrated by Bishop Louis F. Kihneman on Saturday, May 25, 11 a.m., at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis. Alexander Koons Koons is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Koons of Pass Christian. He gradu- ated with a 4.72 weighted GPA, and was Mississippi STAR student of his class with score of 32 on his ACT. He was president of National Honor Society, president of Mu Alpha Theta, as well as a representa- tive of Student Council, Student Ministry, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Athletically, he was captain of the varsity soccer team, captain of the var- sity track team, and captain varsity cross country team at SSC. He has been a volunteer with the Long Beach -- Buddy Ball program for four years and has attended three mission trips with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Alexander plans to attend The University of Mississippi in the fall as part of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence, where he will major in Chemical Engineering. He was awarded Toyota-Haley Barbour Scholarship, the Academic Merit Scholarship, the 1848 Scholarship, and the Mississippi STAR Student Scholarship at Ole Miss. Stephen Schruff, Jr., is the son of Brandy and Stephen Schruff of Long Beach. Stephen attended Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School and transitioned to Saint Stanislaus in seventh grade. At Saint Stanislaus, Stephen participated in baseball, football, and soccer where he was the goalkeeper for the 2017-2018 state championship team. Stephen is active in the community where he has volunteered for many organizations and events such as tutoring students at Boys and Girls Club, volunteering at an assisted living home, and playing with children at the Buddy Ball events. Stephen is a member of the National and French Honor Societies, Mu Alpha Theta officer, student minister, and a co-leader for the Student Council committee. Stephen is a lifeguard for Bay St. Louis Yacht Club and Timber Ridge com- munity pool. Stephen is also a certified soccer refer- ee. He refs for the Bay recreational soccer league. In addition to playing soccer for Saint Stanislaus, Stephen played goalkeeper for Gulf Coast United select soccer team. Stephen was offered opportunities to play collegiate soccer. After much consideration, Stephen has chosen to focus on his career aspirations by attending Mississippi State University in the Fall where he will pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering and finalize his path towards either medical or dental school.
