Gulf Pine Catholic • October 19, 2018 26 Spotlight on Schools P is for Pancake, Pirates, and Pajamas; T is for Tea Time and Toast Learning is abuzz in Pre-K at Holy Trinity! Students of Reini McNeill’s Pre-K4 spent the week learning all about the letters P and T. Students helped make pancakes for a snack. Left, as pirates, they prowled about the campus in search of great treasure, and charged the principal’s office! Center, pajamas and popcorn rounded out the learning, as well as show-and-tell. Tea Time and Toast made learning the letter T fun. Young men wore their best ties, while young ladies donned their beautiful bonnets. Holy Trinity Elementary School, Bay St. Louis Senior and junior student ministers and teachers led two day-long retreats for underclassmen at Saint Clare Community Center in Waveland. In late August, WilliamWeber (ʽ19) and Joe Lawson (ʽ20) led the seventh grade retreat with the theme ‟24 equals 1” to help unify the Class of 2024, which hails from 15 different schools. To that end, the juniors and seniors led small-group get-acquainted sessions, col- laborative activities, and a tug-of-peace game in which the force of the group holds everyone in balance. In mid-September Alexander Fuller (ʽ19) and Jackson Thriffiley (ʽ20) polled the 49 members of the eighth grade to set two themes under the heading ‟Becoming.” The Class of ʽ23 listened to talks by seniors and Coach Woody Cagnolatti about their own eighth grade experiences, shared issues, and performed anti-bullying raps they composed. Both retreats con- cluded with a prayer service in the church involving the participation of the whole class. St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis The 20th annual Senior Leadership Breakfast took place in the Cafe where the senior class met with alumni to discuss their experiences at Saint Stanislaus, college memories, and current professions. The annual Senior Leadership Breakfast brings together alumni and current students for an opportunity to share their experiences, past and present. It is also a valuable opportunity for Stanislaus students to get a glimpse of the many paths they can take after gradua- tion. Keynote speaker Kyle Lewis ‘04 spoke about his time at Saint Stanislaus and what lies ahead for seniors when they graduate. Also on hand was Dr. Sidney Chevis ‘63 who was presented with a proclamation to celebrate his attendance at all 20 leadership breakfasts. Saint Stanislaus is proud and thankful to have had so many alumni attend and devote their mornings to men- tor our bright and enthusiastic seniors. Keynote speaker Kyle Lewis All French classes are exchanging postcards with students in Canada and Illinois. École Catholique Jacques-Cartier in Timmins, Ontario, is doing a geography project with its elemen- tary students. With the donation of postcards from a generous parent, we wrote messages about our towns, their populations, the climate, our state’s natural resources, our unique tourist attractions, and other interesting facts. This exchange is an opportunity to communicate in French and teach others about our region. French students in levels French II, III, and IV are participating in a partnership with the advanced French classes at Larkin High School in Elgin, Illinois. So far the students have written letters that describe them- selves, their interests, their school, and their towns. They also practiced asking questions to find out more about their pen pals.
