Gulf Pine Catholic • June 1, 2018 17 Spotlight on Schools At the end of the school year, St. Patrick seniors paraded through the halls of their feeder schools -- St. Alphonsus Parish School in Ocean Springs (pictured), SacredHeart ParishSchool inD’Iberville, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish School in Biloxi, St. James Parish School in Gulfport and Our Lady of Fatima Parish School in Biloxi. St. Patrick Catholic High School students Lillie Guida and Anthony Schloegel, left, recently won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class I Tennis State Champions in Mixed Doubles. Jackson and Logan Ward, right, won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class I Tennis State Champions in Boys Doubles. St. Patrick Catholic High School, Biloxi On May 16, Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary students were treated to a tour of construction being done in the sanctuary of Sacred Heart Church in D’Iberville. On April 24, Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School students participated in Nativity BVM’s Annual Track Meet at St. Patrick’s High School. The following students placed in their events: Indiana Nation, first place third grade 50-yd dash; Kylie McKay, third place third grade girls’ 50-yd dash; Kylie McKay, second place fourth grade soft ball throw; Justin Marie second place fifth/sixth grade boys’ softball throw. Pictured, l-r, are Kylie McKay, Indiana Nation, and Justin Marie On May 4, Sacred Heart Elementary students participated in a Trike-a-Thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Sacred Heart Elementary School, D’Iberville Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, Biloxi Two students at OLF Elementary, Kadence and Logan Sheppard, were presented with the Bozeman Courage Award at the annual Catholic School Track Meet held at St. Patrick High School. Kadence, a sixth grader at OLF Elementary, and Logan, a fourth grader, were presented the award for their strength in dealing with the sudden death of their father, Wesley, in 2016. This annual award is to honor the memories of Joshua Bozeman and his five fellow classmates who died in a car crash in 2006. They were all graduates of Mercy Cross High School and were attending college at the time of their deaths. On a beautiful spring evening at St. Patrick High School, nine coast Catholic elementary schools lined up to compete in the annual Nativity track meet. OLF Elementary sent a full squad of athletes to compete in the various track and field events including relays, dashes, long jumps, and softball throws. Emerson Yelverton, a fourth grader at OLF Elementary (pictured) set a new record in the 50-yard dash for her grade breaking the previous record set in 1992.
