Over 55 high schools from Mississippi and Louisiana competed on March 22-24 at The Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, LA. Our Lady Academy robotic team’s debut captured 18th place overall after the qualifying rounds and advanced to the quarter finals. OLAwas the only rookie team selected for an alliance to compete in the playoffs and was presented with the “Rookie Inspiration Award”. OLA’s Robotics Team is the only all-girl robotics team in the state of Mississippi. These high-school level robotics teams, with the guidance of adult mentors, had six weeks to design, build and program their competitive robot to perform a series of tasks as a sport, using offense, defense quick thinking and scouting techniques. Teams had to use code and programming, CAD, mechanical and electri- cal engineering, automation and robotics. “Our team was amazing! These students have worked so hard and their perseverance and dedication to the project paid off at their first competition! I applaud their efforts and their team work in building OLA’s first robot. We are grateful to our sponsors, NVision Solutions, NASA, Stennis Facility, South Group Insurance, Steven Palazzo for Congress, United States Marine and Mississippi Power who have men- tored and contributed their time and funds to make this program a success,” said Cranford.
