12 Gulf Pine Catholic • April 6, 2018 Amber Buckley has been named the State of Mississippi high school nominee for the Warren E. Shull Adviser of the Year Award. Sponsored by the National Student Council, the Shull award recognizes outstanding advisers for their dedi- cation to the leadership development of our nation’s youth and the many positive contributions they make with their student councils. Each year, the Warren E. Shull Award is presented to a middle level and high school student council adviser who demonstrates exemplary character, leader- ship, and commitment to young people and their devel- opment as student leaders. The adult members of the NASSP Student Leadership Advisory Committee have the monumental challenge of judging applications and selecting the Warren E. Shull Region Finalists and National Winners. Region finalists are notified of their selections in February, and the national winners will be announced at the NatStuCo National Conference in June. Region finalists and the two national winners will be presented with specially designed plaques during a general session at the conference. Additionally, each national winner receives a $500 cash award. Buckley St. Patrick Catholic High School celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by inviting students from its feeder schools to come for a visit. These schools included St. Alphonsus Elementary in Ocean Springs, Nativity BVM Elementary in Biloxi, Sacred Heart Elementary in D’Iberville, Our Lady of Fatima Elementary in Biloxi, St. James Elementary in Gulfport, and St. Vincent de Paul Elementary in Long Beach. St. Patrick Catholic High School, Biloxi St. James Elementary School, Gulfport St. James Catholic School held another successful Fun Run on March 17th. Participants competed in a 1 mile Fun Run and/or a 5K. The luck of the Irish helped turn the day from cloudy to sunny! The second grade students at St. James Catholic School in Diana Holder’s and Ann Edward’s classes celebrated the Feast of St. Joseph by visiting each classroom and handing out Fava beans, a prayer card, and the story of St. Joseph to each student and teacher. Classroom mothers helped to make a beautiful altar. Spotlight on Schools
