The principal is directly responsible to the President of the School for administering the educational and extra-curricular programs of the school in a manner consistent with the school’s mission and philosophy, as well as mission and philosophy of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. The Principal must be a practicing Catholic. The Principal has responsibility for ensuring a positive school climate and maintaining positive relationships with students and parents, while inspiring a dynamic instructional staff. Box 130669 Birmingham, AL 35213 president@jcchs.org Deacon David Allen named principal of St. Alphonsus Catholic School in Ocean Springs Deacon David Allen has been hired as principal of St. Alphonsus Catholic School for the 2018-19 School Year. “Deacon Allen’s optimism, love of his faith, and passion for education are infectious,” wrote St. Alphonsus pastor Father Mike Snyder in a March 14 letter to parents and friends of the school. Deacon Allen comes to St. Alphonsus Catholic School with an extensive career in public education, in which he served as an administrator in the Gulfport School District for the last 13 years, including assign- ments at Central Elementary and Bayou View Elementary as assistant principal. While at Bayou View Elementary, the school earned the distinction of being named a National Blue Ribbon School, and was recog- nized as Mississippi’s top-performing elementary school for several consecutive years. Deacon Allen holds the Associate of Arts degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, the Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Mississippi State University, and the Master of Education in Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. His teaching background is in band and performing arts, where he served as a band director and choir accompanist in multiple venues, including assignments in D’Iberville, Ocean Springs, and at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He also served as district School-to- Careers Coordinator for the Gulfport School District, and served as director of the GHS Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. Deacon Allen was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in 2013, and is currently assigned to St. John the Evangelist parish as Pastoral Associate. He teaches a 3-year homiletics course in the diaconate formation for the Diocese of Biloxi, and also serves as Associate Director of the Diaconate in charge of continuing edu- cation for all diocesan deacons. Prior to his ordination, Deacon Allen served as organist and choir director at St. James Parish in Gulfport, and also served as assistant director of the Ocean Springs Chorale for several years. He toured and performed with the Chorale in such venues as the British Isles, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Greece. Deacon Allen is a native of Ocean Springs, and his parents still reside in the area. He currently resides in Gulfport, with his wife, Kris, who is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Long Beach. They have two grown daughters, one grandson, and are eagerly anticipating a new granddaughter on the way in July. Deacon Allen will succeed Dr. Pam Rogers, who is retiring at the end of this year. He said he is honored to be given the opportunity to serve the children and families of St. Alphonsus School, and looks forward to fulfilling his diaconate and educational vocations through Catholic Education at St. Alphonsus for years to come.
