After completing a very competitive Catholic league basketball season, the OLF sixth grade boys and girls finished the season by winning the St. Alphonsus Basketball Tournament. The sixth grade boys team defeated Resurrection and St. James to meet St. Alphonsus in the title game. The boys won the title game 47 to 22. The sixth girls took a similar route and defeated St. Alphonsus in the title game. Congratulations to Ton Nguyen, head coach of the sixth grade boys team, and Ken Mustered, head coach of the sixth grade girls team, and Jeremy Jernigan, assistant coach of the sixth grade girls team, for a terrific season. Our Lady of Fatima Elementary, Biloxi Joshua Gatke returned home after a seven-month deployment with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133. A special reunion was arranged by members of the faculty and staff at St. James. Joshua arrived at lunchtime and surprised his second-grade daughter, Bella Gatke. St. James Elementary, Gulfport Third graders in Stacie Barrient’s class at St. James Catholic School created anemometers as part of their study of weather in Science. The students are pictured making and testing their anemometers. St. James students who placed in the school Geography Bee are (from left to right): third place winner, Shayleen Moeini; second place winner, Jack Hewes; and first place winner, Benjamin Kirby. Benjamin will now compete for a place in the state Geography Bee.
