COLORADO REAL ESTATE JOURNAL
— September 16-October 6, 2015
Spotlight
he fifth annual Watts
to Water Awards cer-
emony was held June
10 at the BOMA lun-
cheon at the Wellshire Event
Center. Watts to Water is a
first-of-its-kind program dedi-
cated to the energy and water
use reduction of commercial
properties in the Denver metro
area. Sponsored by Denver
Metro BOMA, and partnered
with the City Energy Project,
the Denver Mayor’s Office and
the Environmental Protection
Agency, Watts to Water offers
participants free sustainability
training, tips and advice on
how to best utilize Energy Star
Portfolio Manager. Watts to
Water also educates partici-
pants about the most recent
rebates and incentives for
energy and water conservation.
Last year, Watts to Water
members saved 7.8 million
kWh of electricity, and 14 mil-
lion kBtu of steam and natural
gas. That’s enough energy
to power more than 500,000
square feet of Denver office
space. (The average energy per
square foot was determined
from internal program energy
use data.) In addition, Watts
to Water members reported
more than 9.3 million gallons
of water savings!
There are always a select
few who appear to go above
and beyond when it comes to
energy and water conservation
manage-
ment. This
year Watts
to Water
and Mayor
Michael B.
Hancock recognize these select
few.
