i2 completes DB Schenker remodel:
Uses gondolas, shipping containers
i
2 Construction recently announced the successful project completion for DB
Schenker’s office and data room remodel in Lakewood. Teamed with Ware
Malcomb (design), this phased/occupied 14,00-sf, 14-week project was com-
pleted last year and features a total interior repositioning that utilizes innovative
colors, materials and natural light in the facility’s new open plan. Key project ele-
ments include:
· Unique use of shipping containers, gondolas, reclaimed airplane materials and
more for huddle rooms, personal work areas and meeting space.
· Downsize and reconfiguration of existing 2,600-sf data center.
· Install of new lighting control system featuring sensors that integrate with roof so-
lar tubes to provide even light levels depending on amount of natural light through-

Plan West designs Urban Courtyard for
Little Man Ice Cream in Highlands
T
he Plan West design ideas were selected to complete the LoHi Plaza around
the iconic Little Man Ice Cream milk can. Working with the owners, the Plan
West design incorporates several flexible outdoor “rooms” for sitting around
eating ice cream, for outdoor workouts as an extension of the adjacent gym, sea-
sonal vendors, and an intimate urban amphitheater for summer movies and quiet
contemplation. Selected canopy trees provide a vegetative contrast, reprieve from
the summer sun, and intricate shadow patterns on the plaza floor. The composition
of spaces delivers street-level interest as well as a great visual image from the
adjacent second and third floor dining areas.
The owners used recycled pavers from 15th Street to create the local eco-friendly
custom hardscapes in the plaza. The eclectic collection of benches, gliders, chairs
and patio furniture, with colorful umbrellas, complete the inviting and festive char-
acter of this urban place.

IA develops workplace strategy
for TriZetto HQ in Meridian
T
riZetto, a health care software development company, commissioned IA to collaborate
with its developer team Opus and core and shell architect Open Studio for a new
corporate headquarters, located in the Meridian Business Park.
Highlights include a two-story lobby for corporate reception. The team took cues from
the base building shell design - including natural stone, anodized metal, and glass - and
incorporated these into the palette for a cohesive look.
Working with TriZetto, IA developed a workplace strategy that promotes collaboration
between individual work groups and chances to have impromptu meetings. This included
co-locating conference rooms, break and copy areas, and open huddle areas near elevators
and the open central four-story staircase.
LEED requirements influenced finish selections and the need for natural daylighting. One
key feature: enclosed offices, conference rooms, and support spaces are located closer to
the core, with open office and collaboration areas near windows.

Kieding remodels Meridian One lobby,
adds media wall, casual seating
M
eridian One’s vision for its expansive Centennial building lobby was fairly
simple and certainly consistent with today’s market standards: to create a
clean, sophisticated welcome space without breaking the bank.
There were two significant challenges to overcome in redefining this space: hide
clearly visible, grated floor vents, and update the eye appeal of the expansive, va-
cant space.
Kieding answered the first challenge by creating a three-sided media wall with
offset layers and flat screens on opposite panels. The media section immediately
adjacent to the elevator bank is flanked by furniture clusters that offer casual seat-
ing for tenants and visitors. The entire arrangement dramatically improves visual
interest while enhancing overall energy from both sides of the lobby.
The remainder of the space features updated carpet and tile in neutral tones,
LED lighting around the entirety of the existing soffit, new plants and flowers, and
back-painted opaque glass along the first-floor suites.
