Construction has started
on what will be Steamboat
Springs’ largest office building.
Hedge fund Deer Park Road
Corp., based in Steamboat
Springs, has broken ground on
the 30,000-square-foot build-
ing, designed by Vertical Arts
Architecture. The building will
include custom offices and a
trading floor for the DPRC.
“Our new building will fur-
ther enhance our ability to do
business around the world,
connecting with global mar-
kets in real time, all the time,”
said Michael Craig-Scheckman,
CEO and portfolio manager
of the Deer Park Road Corp.,
which last year ranked No. 8 in
Barron’s Top 100 Hedge Funds.
“We’re raising families, run-
ning a successful company,
and enjoying the lifestyle and
relaxed atmosphere that most
people in our profession, who
live almost exclusively in large
metropolitan areas, can only
dream about. This building will
accentuate our values, and our
synergies with Vertical Arts, a
team that not only shares our
dedication to work/life bal-
ance, but who also ‘get it’ in
engaging with passion and pro-
fessionalism on a very complex
project,” he added.
In addition to the DPRC
space, the Deer Park Office
Building also will include office
space for other professional
tenants, an Italian bistro restau-
rant and underground park-
ing. Amenities at the Deer Park
Office Building will include ski
and bike storage, a gym and
“substantial” outdoor deck.
“With today’s reality of
remote, high-speed, cloud-
based connections, we relish
the idea of being the location-
neutral, ‘anti-Wall Street’ firm
with a team of ‘A’ players right
here in one of the best small
towns in America,” said Craig-
Scheckman.
“We’re a long way from Wall
Street, but an alternative invest-
ment management firm is dig-
ging in here in Steamboat and
will do business around the
world in a state-of-the-art office
building at the foot of one of
the best ski mountains in North
America,” said Brandt Vander-
bosch, founder of Steamboat’s
Vertical Arts Architecture and
chief architect on the Deer Park
Office Building, across from
the base-area gondola. “The
extension of balanced lifestyle
and professional performance
has been integrated into every
aspect of our strategic planning
and design process.”
Construction is anticipated to
take a little more than a year to
complete. HLCC Construction
Co. is the contractor.
Deer Park Road Corp. is a
multifund investment manager
focusing solely on investing in
distressed real estate and asset-
backed fixed-income securities
for high-net-worth individuals
and institutional investors.
