Page 2 — Health Care & Senior Housing Quarterly — April 2020 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor I hope this letter finds you all healthy and safe at home! Needless to say, COVID-19 is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, including most of our contributors to this issue of Health Care and Senior Housing Quarterly. Common to all the articles focus- ing on the coronavirus is the uncer- tainty the pandemic brings and the unknown of what it will leave in its wake. Contributor Amy Dvorak takes a look at COVID-19’s effect on mental health and the future of health care design. Espe- cially interesting is the examination of balancing social distancing with the needed social interactions by patients for successful treatment. Likewise, Catalyst’s Debbie Jacobs explores how the coronavirus is impacting the health care world and how it will shape the future of patient-centered care. Our senior housing contributors also discussed how the pandemic is impacting the marketplace. Lana Peck of National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care offered a glimpse of where the Den- ver metro senior housing market was prior to COVID-19 – spoiler, the market was on solid ground. However, where it goes from here, Peck doesn’t hazard a guess. She does, however, emphasize how NIC is concerned by the public health challenge facing us all and, in par- ticular, older Americans. LeadingAge Colorado’s Laura Landwirth offers examples of how the organization is advocating on behalf of the industry in these chal- lenging times while Daphne Bern- stein and Margie Guerrieri of Vivage Senior Living and WellAge Senior Communities, respectively, share how their communities are adapt- ing to today’s challenges. It is a great issue exploring the challenges that COVID-19 is pre- senting the health care properties and senior housing industry, and the ways that owners, operators, architects, contractors, etc., are looking creatively to find ideas and ways to operate during this time. I hope you enjoy reading it and if you’d like your voice heard, please feel free to reach out. As always, we couldn’t do this publication without you and your contributions. It is your voices that are the heart of the quarterly – and for that we are so appreciative! And as you may have noticed, we updated the name of the quarterly to Health Care and Senior Housing Quarterly to better reflect what is in the following pages – health care properties and senior housing news, trends, insights and more.
