Page 2 — Health Care Properties Quarterly — October 2019 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor I n the last Health Care Prop- erties Quarterly of 2019, this issue looks at a variety of activity happening in the market, trends that are shap- ing the health care and senior housing sectors and even what happens when dinosaur bones are found on a development site. This issue is packed with deals big and small from the sale of Dry Creek Medical Office Building to the sale of a for- mer cancer center in Thornton to the opening of the first pediatric-only hospital in South- ern Colorado to the development of a multitude of senior housing properties across the state. Additionally, this issue’s contrib- uted articles give glimpses of the issues facing the sector today and tomorrow. Contributed pieces include Jean Sebben’s look at the influ- ence of today’s technology and the built environment on shap- ing the patient experience; the importance of furniture selection in a health care environment from Gallun Snow; and an article from TreanorHL on the considerations needed to stay operable during renovations. This issue also takes an expan- sive glance at Colorado’s senior housing and care market. Longtime contributor Elisabeth Borden of The Highland Group Inc. returns to the quarterly with her look at the challenges and oppor- tunities of senior living in the state. It is interesting to read about how the independent living and assisted living market has blos- somed by more than 4,000 units in the last four years while new home developments designed for buyers 55-plus also has skyrocketed in the same time frame. She also examines a second emerging market – for-sale coop- eratives restricted to people age 55-plus. The quarterly also takes a fun look at what happened when Brinkmann Constructors found a triceratops fossil at the site of the Wind Crest retirement commu- nity in Highlands Ranch as well as OZ Architecture’s exploration of designing dining for seniors with experience in mind. As always, we couldn’t do this publication without you and your contributions. Please feel free to send us any and all of your con- struction and development news, new hires, sales announcements as well as your contributed articles on the health care and senior housing and care market. It is your voices that are the heart of the quarterly – and for that we are so appreciative. Have a great finish to 2019! See you in 2020.
