Page 2 — Health Care Properties Quarterly — July 2019 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor I t’s hard to believe that the year is more than half gone! But it’s not hard to believe in the continued strength of the medical office and health care sector in Colorado, as evidenced by the articles written by our contrib- utors in this issue of Health Care Properties Quarterly. Our cover story takes a deeper look into designing spaces support- ing those either with a patient in hospice care or the hospice staff. It’s a great glimpse into what it takes to focus on the sup- port structure for hospice patients and something previously unex- plored in the quar- terly. This issue also features an article about aquaponics. Yes, the system that combines aquaculture – rais- ing aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks – with hydroponics – cultivating plants in water – in a symbiotic environment. As to why, author JD Sawyer looks at the advantages of including such a system in a senior housing or mental health care facility. Frequent contributor Jami Mohlenkamp also shared an article for the senior housing and care market about designing education- al spaces not just for the young but also older adults, and ways that these generations could share the space. It’s these types of new, fresh ideas that make this issue a fasci- nating read. And it’s these type of articles we’d love to include more of within the pages of the quar- terly. As always, please feel free to reach out to me with ideas, thoughts and trends on what is happening in the market or what we should be covering. You are the experts in this industry and we want to share your observations. Without you, there is no Health Care Properties Quarterly. Additionally, this issue also offers a news section filled with the groundbreakings, openings, top- ping outs, construction starts, sales and everything in between in the medical office building and senior housing and care sectors as well as articles looking at emerging trends in the marketplace, how manage- ment groups are picking up inde- pendent practices and what effect it has on real estate owners, and how construction is showing signs of slowdown within the senior marketplace. It’s a great read! Enjoy! Jennifer Hayes jhayes@crej.com 303-623-1148, Ext. 106 New trends, ideas in Colo.
