Page 2 — Health Care Properties Quarterly — July 2018 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor E very issue of the Health Care Properties Quarterly features a host of experts discussing the trends and topics shap- ing the industry – and this issue is no different – however, in the following pages, this quarterly had a host of authors tackle the subject of design in health care environments. Both Inpro’s Evan Bane and Gallun Snow’s Sara Par- sons make strong arguments about the role art can play in not only fostering a healing environment but also the impact it can have on the overall facility as well as its connec- tion to the larger community. Additionally, DLR Group’s Philip LiBassi looks at how to design spaces for the patient experience while Emily Sinclair of IA Interior Architects looks at how technology is being incorporated into design and its impact not only on care for patients and clients but also on the security of health care facilities. Julia Bailey of OZ Architecture also examines how to design senior spaces for health and wellness. The issue also features insight into emerging trends in health care as discussed by the Colorado Asso- ciation of Healthcare Executives at its annual conference; construc- tion of health care properties; legal considerations for loans secured by senior facilities; and readying senior properties for the influx of retirees. The issue also includes an overview of transactions – sales, groundbreakings, new hires, etc., – happening within Colorado’s health care and senior housing industry. The sheer volume of activity that continues to occur across the state is astounding and speaks to the interest and need for health care and senior housing in Colorado. On a personal note, I’d like to extend a special thank you to Elisabeth Borden and The Highland Group for being a key contributor for the quarterly since its start. This is the last issue that The Highland Group will be providing its research for the senior housing and care construction starts, renovations, openings and sales. It has been a great addition to the journal and it will be greatly missed! As well, this issue features a final article by Nancy Schwalm at Vivage Senior Living, also one of the quar- terly’s staunch supporters since its start, who is retiring. Thank you for your insight! Again, thank you for reading this issue of Health Care Proper- ties Quarterly. I hope you find it as engaging, thought-provoking and informative as I did! Until fall!
