Page 2 — Health Care Properties Quarterly — April 2018 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor W hen reading this issue of Health Care Properties Quar- terly, I hope one thing stands out above all else – the new perspectives and ideas on today’s health care and senior housing and care market. This issue features a wide range of authors and topics – ones never before explored in these pages – that bring a fresh look at what is shaping the industry today and tomorrow. It’s no secret that Denver remains one of the top markets for medical office space, as the health and wellness work- force not only con- tinues to drive the region’s employment growth but also demand for medical office space. HealthcareTrust of Amer- ica Inc.’s Jaime Northam discusses the growth of Denver’s growing medical office market and how it compares with other markets in its portfolio. Additionally, Cheryle Powell with Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates, Rocky Mountain Associates examines how the trend for health and wellness in retail environments is growing to meet the changing needs and desires of the consumer. The consumer also is key, accord- ing to Hammes Co., to the ambulatory network of the future. The article notes that of utmost importance to health care systems thriving in the coming health care environment is an under- standing of retail consumer patterns. In a first for the quarterly, Mike Hagan of TreanorHL offers a look into the designing of safe environments for the handling of hazardous drugs. It’s a great read on how hospital pharmacies are having to be designed to meet USP General Chapters 800 and 797 and the impacts it can have on facilities. Also a first for Heath Care Properties Quarterly is Hord Coplan Macht’s dis- cussion on behavioral health care facil- ity design. It’s an eye-opening piece on how to design facilities that put patient care and safety at the forefront of facili- ties as behavioral health integrates into primary care. Construction always is a focus to the quarterly and this issue isn't different with articles from Saunders Construc- tion, JE Dunn Construction andVertix Builders. Greenworks Lending also introduces how C-PACE funding – Com- mercial Property Assessed Clean Ener- gy – can be an effective tool for health care facilities looking to expand their physical space or make green improve- ments. Not to be outdone, the senior section of this issue offers up new topics for discussion, including “senior loving.” OZ Architecture’s Jami Mohlenkamp brings to light designing spaces that bring romantic social experiences into senior living spaces. It’s a great issue with lots of new top- ics, new ideas and new contributors. I hope you enjoy!
