68 / BUILDING DIALOGUE / March 2021 this building help facilitate students’ curiosity and passion for agricultural science.” The new Shepardson Hall will sup- port the CAS’smission, including feeding theworld, for anoth- er 80 plus years. The north addition design includes an iconic big “A” for Ag- gies, as well as some of the building’s transparent standout features, including the labs and studios on the upper floors, a simulation lab, visualization room and large conference room. The south additionwill be centered around the 180-seat auditorium-in-the-round while the rest of the addition acts as a student-focused “mall” that creates “storefronts” to many key programmatic features, such as the Student Success Cen- ter, the café/coffee shop, the 90-seat classroom, and the “Inno- vation Gym” – a flexible collaboration-focused space that can be used for a variety of uses. Additionally, the Shepardson project is an integrated and progressive design-build delivery method based on own- er-provided criteria documents. The same design-build team of Adolfson & Peterson Construction and CannonDesign com- pleted CSU’s Health and Medical Center in 2017 and recently completed the new University of Colorado School of Medi- cine at CSU-Fort Collins in the previously shelled fourth-floor space. The CannonDesign and A&P team has found that the pro- gressive design-build method allows team members to bring more of their own creativity and innovation to the project, in lieu of the older form of design-build used on the Health and Medical Center, which started with bridging (design) doc- uments that were completed by CSU prior to the selection of the design-build team. Getting involved early in the process allowed the team to challenge each other to produce the best outcome for CSU and future generations of students. \\ / Shepardson Hall / OPENING ART: The south addition will be centered around the 180- seat auditorium-in-the-round while the rest of the addition acts as a student-focused “mall” that creates “storefronts” to many key programmatic features.
