December 2020 \ BUILDING DIALOGUE \ 87 McGregor Square Mixed-Use Win for LoDo & Fitting Tribute for Rockies Exec WORDS: Kevin Criss “No matter what your role or title, model greatness and invite others on the journey.” –Keli McGregor B efore his sudden passing in 2010, Keli McGregor was the beloved Colorado Rockies team president. By all accounts, he was a gifted leader blessed with an infectious personality, warm heart, natural grace and a passion for family. Andperhapsmost endearing was the fact that he treated everyone with kindness, whether it was a parking lot at- tendant, All-Star first baseman or an 8-year-old seeing her first game. McGregorwas also a visionary. Ina 2006 email to fellowRockies executives, he outlined his plan to transform the West Parking Lot, a city block bordered by 20th, Wazee, Wyn- koop and 19th streets, into a mixed-use develop- ment featuring a hotel, condos, offices, retail and restaurants. Fourteen years later, McGregor Square is a stunning, mixed-use development with three separate buildings – a boutique hotel, luxury condo tower and office tower – built on a com- mon concrete platform with two levels of be- low-grade parking. The three buildings encircle a 28,000-square-foot plaza thatwill host year-round events like pre- and post-game activities, con- certs, a skating rink andmore. It’s vibrant. It’s fun. It’s family friendly. And it’s theperfect legacy for a treasuredmem- ber of the Rockies family. A Way to Fund Coors Field Upgrades Coors Field, Denver’s home of the Colorado Rockies, is 25 years old and with that age comes the inevitable maintenance and upgrade costs needed to keep pace with newer ballparks around the league. So, where to find the tens of millions of dollars needed? TheStadiumDistrict, whichowns the stadium,
