Bal Seal Engineering ELEMENTS MOB Design Better Patient Care Informs Oral Surgery Center Design D espite its great location inCherryCreek, the Denver Metro OMS practice had expanded over time and the cramped spacewas no longer functioning optimally. Already with two partners and a third partner anticipated, “Wewere inneed of a larger, more effi- cient space where we would be better able to care for our patients,” said JulianaDiPasquale, DMD, part- ner at DenverMetro OMS. The partners selected a new space in Cherry Creek, increasing the size of the office to 5,000 square feet. The group again enlisted our firm, which previous- ly had designed two of its oral surgery offices, to assist in designing a new facility. The partners wanted the space to reflect their latest thinking about optimum OMS practice function, and have a fresh modern ap- pearance. To program the space, they took an “evidence-based” approach, inwhich newhealth care environments are designed based on research (and professional experi- ence) towardmore positive patient outcomes. Improving upon their previous office design, amain goal emerged – to increase doctor and staff interface with the patient. The result was a more compact wait- ing area due to already efficient treatment flow; five large procedure rooms; four consult rooms for post-op checkups and quick appointments; two larger, more private check-in spaces; a dedicated hallway for staff/ caregiver access tosurgical recoverybays; and two larg- er consult rooms for implant procedure coordination. To better monitor the patient experience, the staff offices were located directly adjacent to patient areas. Lynne C.
