June 2018 \ BUILDING DIALOGUE \ 45 IMAGES: Angela Harness 3 1. Even though the reception area is small, it is mighty. The custom created vinyl wall graphic showcasing road leading to jagged, challenging peaks immediately lets visitors and employees alike know that Derive is moving forward and engi- neering a bold future. 2 . The boardroom, located just off the entry, is afforded a prime location on the glass while still maintaining privacy from the rest of the open office. The room repeats the acoustic curving blades on the ceiling that are found in the entry and the color- ful carpet design leads visitors through the space to this area. 3. Instead of labeling rooms in the traditional fashion with standoff plaques, custom printed semi-transparent glazing graphics were created, focusing on the large number eleva- tions of Colorado mountains. Each meeting room and the single office features a mountain elevation as a room name, such as Snowmass Mountain, shown here. 4. The leaders of Derive wanted a design that appealed to the most creative engineers in the Colorado area, as recruit- ing and retention are very important to company growth. Assorted styles of lounge seating, meeting rooms and small conversation pieces were provided, while three red gondolas were brought in from Austria to act as small, movable huddle rooms. 5. It was important for the design of the office that no space felt separated from the rest. Using open colored grid brought the ceiling level down in meeting areas, while exposed metal studs created a space barrier, but allowed for visual presence and connection. 6. The large breakroom features concrete-look quartz counter- tops for durability and high-gloss cabinetry to help reflect the natural light from the newly installed skylights and the accent lighting. As a hub for the office, there are many different styles of seating and enough storage for everyone's needs. Inside & Out(side) Kestrel 5 6 4
