/ BUILDING DIALOGUE / DECEMBER 2015
Adjacent to the entrance is an elegant
double-door entry into AMG’s bank. The
room is furnished with warm leather fur-
niture and wood-paneled walls. The white
ceiling, marble floors and warm fireplace
bring together the perfect balance of classi-
cal architecture against the backdrop of the
traditional design of a financial institution.
Located at the opposite wing of the build-
ing is Fanum Club, AMG’s entrepreneurial
co-working and office spaces made avail-
able for lease.
The second floor also houses AMG offic-
es, including conference rooms, employee
workstations and private offices. On the
third floor, there are two conference rooms,
AMG’s executive boardroom and an impres-
sive event center located directly under the
monumental dome.
The event floor beneath the dome is ap-
proximately 2,500 square feet while the
dome itself is outfitted with advanced au-
diovisual capabilities. A circular stone me-
dallion with a hybrid of images represent-
ing the work of Greek philosopher Aristotle
spans the event center floor. Emily Zabel,
Ware Malcomb interior design project man-
ager, sharedher inspiration behind the sym-
bolic design, “AMGwas intrigued by the idea
of using ancient philosophers in the design
of the community center floor. The design
of the stone medallion was inspired by the
Wheel of BarlaamandQuendahl. Both sym-
bols represent Aristotle’s teachings and were
fused together to create a unique symbol for
AMG’s community space.”
Connected to the event center is a kitchen
suitable for catering large events, a bar, and
a 3,400-square-foot outdoor patio. The patio
features stone fire pits and offers spectac-
ular mountain views, which are especially
breathtaking around sunset.
From the start, AMG imagined its event
center as a community shared area for em-
ployees to enjoy and to host myriad events.
Unsure of the exact use of the space, we
assisted AMG in exploring various layout
options that maximized capacity while
maintaining occupancy codes and regula-
tions. One of the challenges to the design
of the event center was transporting mate-
rials, furniture and supplies up to the third
floor. Collapsible furniture and creative
storage space offered convenient solu-
tions. Proper planning and measurement
of materials also helped to ensure supplies
would be able to fit inside the elevator for
transport up and down.
Since its opening, the event center has
become a popular space for hosting local
events both private and public, such as staff
meetings, client events, weddings and char-
itable events. AMG’s Chairman of the Board
Earl Wright said, “This is our home. We be-
lieve in giving back into the community.
That’s whywe built here. That’s whywe built
our headquarters with a community room.”
Our design goal was to utilize timeless
design beliefs to represent the strength and
stability of this trusted, local financial insti-
tution. Itmay also be by coincidence that the
Palais du Rhin began construction inMarch
1884 while AMG broke ground in March
exactly 130 years later, but it is through ar-
chitecture and symbolic meaning that both
were built for greatness.
AMG National Trust Bank’s new corporate
headquarters now serves as an architectural
centerpiece in the Greenwood Village Town
Center District.
