Ghost Towns of the American West Come explore a fascinating new collec- tion of Old West legends with Ethan Knightchilde , creator of best docu- mentary award-winner Ghosts of the West: The End of the Bonanza Trail , and author of Ghosts of the West: Tales and Legends from the Bonanza Trail . Ethan debuted this entry of his decades-long ghost town documentary project to a standing room-only crowd of over two hundred at the Niwot Historical Society in 2018. The show sold out the follow- ing year at the prestigious Colorado Chautauqua. Unlike books and movies that simply repeat embellished folklore, Ghost Towns of the American West will walk you through a landscape of leg- ends and dramatic nonfiction stories from across the West while keeping one foot planted firmly in the real world. Ethan will share historical and contemporary images and tell stories of discoveries, boomtowns, bust times, and the ultimate fates of the ghost towns of the Old West, including some “inconvenient facts” of history. $36 Non-Member $24 Member $20 + tax optional materials fee payable in class CFU LOWRY : Near 1st & Quebec 8801A: One Thu., 6:30–8:30PM 2/6 8801B: One Wed., 6:30–8:30PM 3/25 Assertiveness for Everyone Assertiveness is a core life skill. The goal is to stand up for yourself and your beliefs effectively while retaining respect for others. We sometimes think that being accommodating is the only way to be nice and that standing up for ourselves is mean. The truth is that when you suppress your needs, you’re more likely to blurt your feelings in thoughtless ways or to act out your feelings indirectly. Besides preventing oth- ers from taking advantage of you, being your own advocate boosts your self-esteem. Learn what the difference is between assertiveness, aggres- siveness, and passivity. Discover a simple formula for expressing yourself that you can adapt to different situations. And, in a supportive atmosphere, fine-tune and practice your skills through role-play. When you have no boundaries, you’re a doormat. With damaged boundaries, you tend to take responsibility for the behavior of others. With rigid boundaries, you build walls of anger or silence. These dysfunctional boundaries rob you of personal power. Healthy boundar- ies, on the other hand, provide the fertile ground needed to nourish your self-esteem, allowing you to better direct and control your life. Leave this course with knowledge about boundaries, how to set them and what to do when others cross them.
