C atholic O utlook By MICHAEL BROWN Managing Editor Praising donors, engineers and architects, contractors, city and county officials, and diocesan staff, Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger welcomed and blessed the new Conference, Educational and Pastoral Center at Cathedral Square in Tucson April 28. “This building is functional and beautiful and an expression of our faith,” the bishop said at a reception following a Mass and ribbon cutting. Bishop Weisenburger noted that the facility houses the parish offices of St. Augustine Cathedral and diocesan offices, including the relocation of the Catholic Tuition Support Organization from its former site at the old Cathedral Rectory into the new diocesan offices. Joining the bishop on the dais were Tucson Mayor Jonathon Rothschild, Rio Nuevo Chairman Fletcher McCusker, Bishop emeritus Gerald F. Kicanas, Catholic Foundation Executive Director Ernie Nedder, diocesan Property and Insurance Office Director John Shaheen, Cathedral rector Father Gilbert Malu Musumbu, diocesan Property and Insurance Office administrator Liz Aguallo and children from Cathedral parish families. The event also featured the conveyance of part of the copy of architect’s designs for the building and keys to the building.
